I did this design to prepare for my future and that of my husband, both of us in our early seventies. We need the confidence and the necessary support to continue living in our property for a considerable time (into our eighties). This should not only take account of our physical needs such as seeking help around the house and garden, but also our personal and mental needs relating to health and well-being, especially if one of us requires medical help.
The location was our property in North Wales, a two acre site with a house and outbuildings that is a short distance outside a village. The clients were my husband and myself.
The project started in January 2024 although the idea for the design began whilst I was on my PDC in 2023. It was completed in October 2025.
The project is largely land based but also involves health and spiritual well-being . The design framework used was The Simplest Design Process by James Chapman, 2017. Mollison’s Design Principles were used both in the content and to evaluate the project.
Tools used included maps and Zones, PNI, Boundaries and the Phased Implementation tool.
