SNaB's Clay Plastering course covers the practical aspects of clay plastering on to hempcrete, and by the end of the course, participants will have gained both knowledge and hands-on construction experience which includes;

How to determine mixes for each type of coat The differences between key coat, body coat and finish coat A basic understanding of how to mix your own clay plaster An understanding how to process fresh clay into plaster The differences between using products and using your own clay The benefits of clay plasters & how they can help to combat climate change Practical skills for applying key coat and dub out walls Use of different types of plastering tools Creating curvaceous reveals around windows and doors Practical application of body coat Finishing techniques and much more!

The trainer is Simon Lovatt, founder of Calch a Chlai Cymru, who runs workshops and contributes to events like ClayFest to help grow knowledge and appreciation of natural building in the UK

During the breaks, your hosts, Yolande and Andrew of Taste of Self Sufficiency will share how they have used permaculture ethics & principles to create a 'no waste' development  so the house won't cost the earth and all the materials can be either re-used or composted at the end of its life. It is the first development of its kind in Herefordshire.  They are also happy to explain the history of making lime from limestone.  There are two 400 yo limekilns on site.

There is limited camping on site (and an adjacent field for campervans) with access to running cold water and a Treebog.  There is also access to a hot shower and a flushed toilet across the lane behind our current house. Please contact Yolande on caenwood@yahoo.co.uk to book a camping/campervan space
