You can arrive the day before and leave the day after the course. You're also welcome to come for Prep Week - 3-9 October 2026 - to help prepare the site and materials for the build. Horse logging, sawmilling and harvesting potatoes may also happen during Prep Week. Cost £140 per person for Build Week, including food. We’ll provide veggie meals, hot drinks, (very) basic facilities, a lovely location and good company. Practical learning: How to build a roundhouse with reciprocal roof and traditional features.

Build Camp #1 will be led by an experienced roundhouse builder and teacher, on land which we hope will become a Scottish Hutting Site. The open-sided roundhouse, once built, will become a covered firepit for the Hutting community. (Check out the campaign to revive a culture of recreational hut use in Scotland https://thousandhuts.org)We're aiming for 6-10 participants to learn and build together. Food, campfire, camping / van-parking space and basic facilities included. Course fees will cover teaching and food costs.

Bring your campervan or tent, work clothes, waterproofs, boots, snacks and treats, instruments, stories and skills to share.

Phil Daube - roundhouse builder, teacher, woodcrafts - will lead the build. Matt Hickman will host and co-lead, Em Hazelwood will assist, look after the campfire, and provide sustenance.
