Based on top (literally) of Hadrian's Wall, this half acre smallholding is the first LAND Centre in the stunning county of Northumberland. Being on top of a south west facing slope at 210 metres provides challenges. Here we practice permaculture principles and design, to produce the food we need - and look at water harvesting and management, woodchip & composting, biochar production and use and close by we also manage hazel coppice and graft and grow on apple trees. Registered as a LAND Centre in autumn 2019. This relatively small space is crammed with interest, while also maintaining enough wild areas to have a great wild bird population. Based on "rock" on top of a hill, it has been a journey since 2014 to use permaculture design as a design system to get the most out of the land, whilst providing a place of peace, relaxation and nature connection for its human inhabitants.
